Your informative guide to PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) therapy!

Platelet Rich Plasma or PRP therapy can help in reducing joint pain hair loss, but did you know that it can get you a facelift without surgery? PRP therapy is a natural antiaging treatment, which uses plasma obtained from the person’s blood. So, is PRP useful for aesthetic needs? We take a look at the basics.

The basics

Plasma riche en plaquettes therapy works wondrously for improving the complexion and texture of the skin. It is also effective in minimizing the appearance of face and neck wrinkles. When used on the scalp, it can help in reducing hair loss and can stimulate the growth of new hair. PRP also reduces the appearance of fine lines, age spots, acne scars and stretch marks.

Who is the ideal candidate?

Anyone who is over 30 and below 50 can effectively use PRP therapy as an antiaging treatment. PRP therapy works best for the early signs of aging or loss of elasticity of the skin. It can also be used as a treatment for dark circles. Please note that PRP therapy is not same as a facelift, and while the results are visible, it’s not as dramatic. Also, it doesn’t work for deep wrinkles. By using PRP for the skin, it is possible to make it look healthier, because it stimulates cells responsible for synthetizing collagen.

Why go for PRP therapy?

Unlike fillers or products used for skin treatments, PRP therapy doesn’t involve anything synthetic. It can be practically used all over the body and as required for aesthetic needs, as long as the doctor finds it effectively. PRP therapy uses plasma from your own blood, and for that, you don’t have to worry about any complicated procedure. More often than not, PRP technique is combined with other treatment such as dermal fillers to get effective results. Every treatment session lasts for one hour at the max, for which microneedling is used. Some clinics may also use U-225 shotgun.

Local anesthesia can be used for sensitive areas, and a person may need more than one injection. Most patients do well in just one to three treatment sessions at the clinic, and usually, there’s a gap of about four to six weeks between two sessions. In terms of results, you can expect to see visible change in three to four weeks, but since PRP uses your own plasma, results can vary from person to person.
